WHAT'S A HIIT WORKOUT and HOW DO YOU DO IT?
HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a great substitute for cardio if you (like Jaz) hate running on a treadmill for 30 minutes...that's kinda boring. HIIT workouts are quick, intense bursts of exercises, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods.
The purpose of HIIT training is to quickly get the heart-rate up and then back down, this will help burn more fat and improve cardiovascular health. HIIT training can be a lot more fun than jumping on a treadmill or elliptical for 30 minutes.
With HIIT, you get a lot more movements (than cardio) in a shorter amount of time. You build more muscles because you use more muscles. Adding time to your workouts (40 seconds on, 20 seconds off) will increase calorie and fat burning more so than going on a long run. So with HIIT you'll increase caloric burn and build more muscle!
Here are a few workouts you could add to your HIIT routine to get started. Liked the video? Let us know in the comments.
